Springing into Easter with an inclusive egg hunt

The City of Orlando Fire Department (OFD) and Lighthouse Central Florida partnered to give visually impaired children the opportunity to participate in a beloved holiday tradition that is often inaccessible to them due to their visual impairment. The OFD Arson and Bomb Squad created special Easter eggs that they brought to the front lawn of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

Designed to look and feel like regular Easter eggs, the large, colorful eggs also include an audible element that helps visually impaired children locate them without the sense of sight. Along with the usual bright colors, these eggs beep very loudly when activated by a switch. Teachers throughout the U.S. have also used beeping Easter eggs to teach location skills and search patterns to visually impaired children.
