Businesses Moving Downtown After Receiving Retail Stimulus Funding

Appearance plays an important role in creating the image of downtown Orlando. Funding for interior improvements not only enhances the look of a business, but also supports the long-term viability of downtown Orlando. The Retail Stimulus Program provides up to $75,000 or 50% of total cost of improvements of the interior buildout.

Earlier this week, City Council approved two applicants to receive funding from the Retail Stimulus Program, Dexter’s Original Birdland and Rare Tea. Dexter’s Original Birdland, located at 595 West Church Street, will serve chicken wings, ribs, sandwiches, and traditional southern sides. The restaurant is owned by first time restaurant owner, Dexter Sanders. The funding will be used drywall repairs, painting, flooring, plumbing, and countertops.

Rare Tea, located at 12 N Summerlin Avenue, is a high-quality tea concept based out of Berkeley, CA. They have over 50 kinds of Boba teas and specialty drinks. The owners currently operate JINYA Ramen Bar in Thornton Park and have over eight years of restaurant experience. Funding from the program will be used for plumbing, fire alarms, electrical, countertops, and interior wall/door demolition.
