For many years, the Salvation Army has operated a men’s overnight shelter at 416 West Colonial Drive within the downtown Orlando Community Redevelopment Area. The DTOutlook as amended in 2015, provides for the Community Redevelopment Agency to support and fund programs to assist homeless persons.
The Downtown Development Board is giving $95,000 to the Salvation Army to house an additional 50 homeless in a tent outside the shelter. The funding will also be used to provide those in need with three meals per day, showers, security, monitoring, restrooms, and more.
