Further beautifying DTO
Last updated on June 15, 2023
The City of Orlando is in the latter stages of completing a massive beautification project that will enhance the natural landscape surrounding the I-4 Solidarity Sculpture. Primarily utilized as a stormwater pond area, this site is DTO's next exciting step towards creating more green spaces for Orlando residents. The initiative will feature the planting of brand-new shrubs, decorative grass, and trees across the two-acre stretch of land. Plant species include Palmettos, Nutall Oaks, Flax Lilly, and Pink Muhly. Six wild date palms have already been planted, completely transforming the area.
In addition to landscaping, outdoor furniture including a bench, bike rack, bike repair station, and trash cans will be installed for the dog walkers, pedestrians, and cyclists who frequent Gertrude's Walk and the Colonial Drive Overpass. This effort supports the Project DTO 2.0 action plan as we work towards creating more green spaces and enhancing downtown's vibrancy.
Following completion later this month, plan your next bike ride or walk and visit the revitalized open space surrounding the Solidarity Sculpture!
