First Residential Receipts of DCRBIP

Building appearance plays an important role in creating the image of downtown Orlando. Funding for building façade and/or building stabilization improvements encourages the reuse of vacant or underutilized properties, improves the appearance, and supports the long-term viability of downtown Orlando. Over time, the taxable valuation of the improved properties will increase, thus increasing the amount of funds available to revitalize downtown Orlando.  We restructured the program a year ago with the goal of encouraging residential applications.

The Downtown Commercial and Residential Building Improvement Program (DCRBIP) offers a three-year loan for façade or building stabilization improvements to existing properties within the Downtown Community Redevelopment Area (CRA). This program provides grants between $15,000 and $120,000 for improvements to buildings made within the CRA boundaries. The program has always been and will remain, a matching program wherein a maximum of 50% of the total cost of improvements are covered by the program with the remaining 50% or more of the improvements being paid by the property owner/applicant.  The DCRBIP was restructured a year ago with a goal of encouraging residential applicants.

Two Orlando residents recently applied for funding and were approved. These applications were the first residential grants.

One applicant was granted $15,000  for façade improvements to her home. This funding would be used for window repair and landscape improvements.

The other applicant was also granted $10,750 for improvements to his home. This funding would be used for landscape improvements within the Eola Planning Area.
