What's Up Downtown: Life in the Village

Please join us on February 24, 2022 at 8:30 am at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church for our first What’s Up Downtown of 2022, celebrating Black History Month in downtown Orlando with a focus on Parramore. This panel discussion will be about the past, present, and future of Parramore, sharing how the village was shaped by education, entrepreneurship, faith-based leadership, as well as the historical perspective.

The speakers participating on the panel include:

  • Terrence Miller, Moderator, Professional Standards Division for the Orlando Police Department 
  • Dr. Kathleen “Kat” Gordon, Former Orange County School Board Member 
  • Walter Hawkins, Director of Urban Development, Downtown Development Board/Community Redevelopment Agency 
  • Dr. Robert M. Spooney, Pastor, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Institutional Church 
  • Elizabeth R. Thompson, Director of Community Engagement, UCF Downtown / Valencia College Downtown

Parking:

Parking is available in the lot at the corner of W. Washington St. and N. Terry Ave., with overflow parking behind the church on Chatham Ave. You are encouraged to take advantage of downtown’s alternative modes of transportation including complimentary LYMMO, electric scooter and bike share (for a fee).
