Third Annual Women’s History Month Celebration Honoring Mary Ann Carro

The Orange County Regional History Center presents its third annual Women’s History Month Breakfast with a program honoring trailblazing artist Mary Ann Carroll (1940-2019), the sole woman in the famed group of 26 artists now known as the Florida Highwaymen.

Featured speakers at the breakfast include Carroll’s daughter, Dr. Wanda Renee Mills, who will provide insight on Carroll as a woman and mother, as well as her work as an artist who defied the conventions of the Jim Crow South to paint and sell her now-iconic Florida landscapes. Longtime expert Jeanine Taylor of Jeanine Taylor Folk Art in Sanford will also share her story of bringing Carroll’s art to Central Florida.

Presented in partnership with the League of Women Voters of Orange County, Florida, the program follows Women’s History Month Celebrations that honored Mary McLeod Bethune, educator and civil rights activist, and Mabel Norris Reese, a crusading journalist who fought for justice in the Jim Crow South.

Proceeds for the event help support the programs of the History Center and our HERstory: Women in History Internship.
