Life and Times of the Women's Rights Movement

The year 2020 marked the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment which gave women the right to vote. We’ve come a long way since this time and yet, we still have a lot more to do. Come to hear the story of the fight for women’s rights as told by one of the leaders of the movement. As the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association, it was Carrie Chapman Catt's work that got the last state to vote to pass the amendment. Hear the story of her life and times before and after women had the right to vote.

Presenter: Kathryn Chesley: A theater educator, playwright and trained actress with a love of history, Kathryn performs “Life and Times Portrayals” of 8 historic women. She is a member of the Sarasota Area Playwrights’ Society, Asolo Theater Guild Play Readers, Friends of the History Center, Historical Society of Sarasota County, Venice Historical Society and is on the Sarasota Centennial Planning Committee. Kathryn is a national presenter with the National Women’s History Alliance. She is also a local tour guide for Discover Sarasota Tours.
