Edgar Allan Poe Prize Exhibition- Opening Night Reception

A central figure of American literature, Edgar Allan Poe was a writer, poet, editor, and literary critic. Best known for his poetry and short stories, his expertise is in mystery and the macabre. The works of Poe did not reach popularity until after the troubled author’s mysterious death. His exploration of all aspects of the human psyche continues to appeal to modern artists, even 174 years after his death.
The artists featured in this exhibition were tasked with creating original works of art inspired from a story, quote, or passage from one of Poe’s literary works. In addition, they could seek inspiration from an aspect of the author’s life.  Thanks to a generous anonymous donor, this exhibition will award $15,000 worth of prize money to four winning artists. Winners of all four awards (First, Second, Third, People's Choice) will be announced at the "Macabre on Magnolia" special event on Saturday, December 2, 2023. They will not be announced on opening night. The Edgar Allan Poe Prize Exhibition is curated by Kat Quast.
