Dancing for Diabetes
Central Florida’s premier annual dance performance, Dancing for Diabetes not only highlights a vast array of dancers from across the region but also benefits the Florida nonprofit, Touched by Type 1. The two hour show features award-winning and nationally recognized dancers from across Central Florida who come together to create an unforgettable evening of entertainment and hope. Performers dazzle with a succession of dance performances presented in a variety of exciting and innovative styles … hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, tap, high kick and more.
Special performances include “Kids & Teens with Diabetes” – a powerful group presentation by an assembly of Central Florida youth with Type 1 Diabetes – as well as other energetic and engaging acts performed by hundreds of children and young adults from dance studios and K-12 and collegiate dance programs from across the region. Individually, each dance group exemplifies Central Florida’s thriving arts community, and collectively, the hundreds of dancers champion Touched by Type 1’s efforts to stir the hearts of those affected by Type 1 Diabetes. Touched by Type 1 is a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating awareness of type 1 diabetes, raising funds to find a cure and inspiring those with diabetes to thrive.
The nonprofit grew out of an annual dance show that ten-year-old Elizabeth Forrest initiated shortly after she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Today, 23 years later, Dancing for Diabetes is just one of many programs that Touched by Type 1 produces throughout the year to procure funding towards research for the disease that affects over 34 million Americans. Dancing for Diabetes truly is an unforgettable evening of nonstop entertainment for everyone!
